Red velvet hot chocolate

Christmas is right around the corner. The season to sit in front of the christmas tree, swaddled in a blanket and sipping on to hot chocolate. We live for this season to drink hot chocolate. Hot milk with melted chocolate, what’s not to like?

But since last 2 weeks, we have been making red velvet version of the hot chocolate. I read about it on Buzzfeed food’s page and decided to give it a try. A dozen of cups in 2 weeks time is a decent score to tell how delicious it is, isn’t it?

The sight of this red velvet hot chocolate is so pretty! It looks just like the red velvet cake served in a cup. Rich dark chocolate flavor and beautiful red food color makes this drink impossible to pass. 

Trust me when I say, you have to try this recipe because it’s worth it. Bonus, it takes not more than 7-10 mins to make this cup of Red Velvet Hot Chocolate.

How to make red velvet hot chocolate?

Making red velvet is easy and the color is so mesmerizing.

To make Red velvet hot chocolate:

  • Heat 1 cup full fat milk in a deep pan on medium flame.
  • You can use Non-dairy milk too. If you use non-dairy, you can add 1 tbsp almond flour to thicken the milk.
  • Once the milk heats (around 2 mins later), reduce the flame to low.
  • Add 1/4 cup of dark chocolate chips to the milk.
  • Start stirring the milk in order to dissolve the chocolate chips. 
  • Once the chocolate chips begin to melt, add 1 tsp red food color.
  • Make sure the red color is good quality.
  • Stir everything together until the chocolate chip melts completely.
  • If you want, you could add 1 tbsp sugar for sweetness.
  • Once chocolate chips are melted and the color mixes well, let the milk simmer for 1 minute.
  • Then transfer it to a cup and serve.
  • Add marshmallows for garnishing.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup full fat milk
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp sugar optional
  • 1 tsp red food color
  • 1 tbsp marshmallows

Instructions

  • Once the milk heats (around 2 mins later), reduce the flame to low.
  • Add 1/4 cup of dark chocolate chips to the milk.
