A drink for the soul, SoulKadhi
Our body needs detox every day and especially after heavy dinner parties or festive dinners. Detox can be in the form of food or liquid diet. I prefer the latter more.
WHAT IS LIQUID DETOX?
Liquid detox is basically consuming liquids that will help flush out the toxins and clean intestine and colon. Infused water is preferred to detox your body. There is Lemon water, fruit infused water and the herb infused water. This infused water is supposed to be consumed for a period of one to 2 days to reduce the inflammation and constipation and detoxify the body.
MY FAVOURITE DETOX :
Being a Maharashtrian and having strong roots in Pune, we had very special detox drink prepared once in 2 weeks on other days or once a week during festivals. It is called So(u)L kadhi.
Why the name SoulKadhi?
The name SoulKadhi comes because of the combination of SOL (Amsol/Amsul)Coconut milk and Amsul and Kadhi (that’s curry made with curd). The main ingredient Amsul is similar to tamarind (taste is sour and tangy) and is majorly grown in coastal region of Maharashtra.
This is no cook recipe and 100% vegan and perfect for lactose intolerant diet. I have used Thai Milk that was available at the grocery store. You can also grind the fresh tender coconut with 1 cup of water to make coconut milk and then strain the milk to remove coconut solids.
Mix Coconut milk and Amsol infused water together and add a paste of chillies and garlic. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves amd serve chilled.
- 1/2 cup of Wet Amsul
- 1 cup of coconut milk
- 2 cloves of Garlic
- 2 chillies
- 1/2 tsp of salt.
- Coriander for garnishing
- 1/2 tsp of sugar
- 1/2 tsp of black pepper
- 1 cup of water
- Soak the Amsul in 1/2 bowl of water for 1 hour.
- Make paste of chillies and garlic.
- Once the water is infused with Amsul, strain the Amsul from the water and transfer it to the bowl.
- Into the Amsul infused water, add Coconut milk and Chilli-Garlic paste and salt.
- Add 1 cup of water to this mixture to make it runny.
- Mix all the ingredients together along with coriander leaves and some ice cubes and let it stand for 10 mins.
- Serve immediately or chill for 10 mins and serve .
Soul Kadhi can be prepared ahead of time and serves best when chilled.
